Convert ASS or SSA subtitles to SRT
Anime and fansub releases often come with ASS or SSA subtitles. Turn them into a plain SRT that any player, editor or flashcard tool can read.
An Advanced SubStation (.ass) or SubStation Alpha (.ssa) file.

How to use it
Choose your .ass or .ssa file or drop it anywhere on this page.
Dialogue lines are read with their timing; styling, positions and vector drawings are removed.
Download the .srt file.
Good to know
- Line breaks written as \N in the ASS file become real line breaks.
- Comment lines and drawn signs are skipped, so only spoken lines remain.
- Karaoke and position effects cannot exist in SRT, so they are dropped.
Before and after
An ASS dialogue line holds the layer, timing, style and override tags in one row. Only the timing and the spoken words move to the SRT.

Why convert ASS to SRT?
SRT is simpler and works everywhere: video editors, TVs, subtitle tools and language-learning apps. ASS is only needed for styled signs and karaoke.
Will signs and songs be kept?
Text signs are kept as normal lines. Signs drawn as vector shapes are skipped because they are pictures, not text.
Can I convert ASS to VTT?
Convert to SRT here first, then use the SRT to VTT converter.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by your browser on your own device and never sent to a server. Once the page has loaded it even works offline.
