Turn your Google Translate saved words into flashcards

Every word you starred in Google Translate becomes a flashcard, with the language you are learning on the front.

The CSV you downloaded from the Google Sheet that Google Translate made (File, Download, CSV).

  • Nothing is uploaded
  • No sign-up
  • Free

How to use it

  1. On translate.google.com open Saved, click the three dots and choose Export to Google Sheets.

  2. In the sheet choose File, Download, CSV, and drop the file here. Or select all cells and paste them.

  3. Pick the language you are learning and download the Anki deck, Excel or CSV.

Good to know

  • Words translated in both directions are turned so your target language is always on the front.
  • Words saved in other language pairs are left out; pick another language to export them.
  • The Fluent by Accident extension can import your saved list into flashcards in one click, without the sheet.

What Google's export looks like

Google Translate's sheet has the source language, target language, your text and the translation. If you are learning Spanish, both rows below become Spanish-first cards.

English Spanish dog perro
Spanish English hola, amigo hello friend

          becomes

Front: perro Back: dog
Front: hola, amigo Back: hello friend

Questions

Where are my saved words in Google Translate?

On translate.google.com click Saved (the star icon). You must be signed in; saved words sync between the app and the website.

I do not see Export to Google Sheets.

It is in the three-dot menu at the top of the Saved panel on the website, not in the phone app.

Which languages work?

All of them. The tool reads the language names from the sheet and lets you choose.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read by your browser on your own device and never sent to a server. Once the page has loaded it even works offline.
